We should immediately dispel every remaining doubt. Our initiative is deeply ‘Europeanist’. It strongly believes in the political and cultural bound which unites Europe and it hopes to offer a considerable contribution to the richness and the further development of the European continent. We like to travel and we are curious. Therefore (and for plenty of other reasons which I cannot list) the glorious review ‘Fotogrammi d’Europa’ has evolved in a citizen’s Festival which by involving both local and international institutions is capable of encouraging encounters between many individuals and different realties across Europe. For a period of then days, we will present various films and other related events which are in harmony with the rhythms of the city. For this reason, we have opted for a longer but less intensive program in comparison with the former review.

Through this initiative we would like to interpret the present audiovisual which is undeniably in a phase of transition and open to various scenarios. Cinema is not dead. On the contrary, it lives on in different modes of fruition. Our proposal is similar to the international Film Festivals which have assumed the role of an alternative distribution circuit. The great productive wealth worldwide does not arrive in Italy if not through festivals which thus represent a means of further socialization through which to see films. Many of the festival’s films have never been shown on television, on the internet and more often than not you cannot even watch them in a cinema near home. You can always decide not to participate but you will have at least been given the opportunity to learn and watch something new.

We believe that any journey is more boring and tiring when you are travelling alone and therefore we have looked for some companions: not only institutional, economic and operational partners but especially cultural ones. They are all institutions which enrich the program through their contribution. By doing this we have created invisible networks which may lead to new knowledge and perhaps even to new projects. The fact that we can present ourselves as ‘Florence’ makes our task easier. The real challenge consists in overcoming the undeniable historical charm of our city by vitalizing its most creative and innovative dimensions.

So we would like to surprise you.

Perhaps we lack the resources to do so with special effects but we can count on our own talent. The programme is eclectic enough to meet the tastes and the curiosity of a heterogeneous public which we hope will be composed both of Florentines and foreigners.
